While we love a winged eyeliner makeup look, the latest makeup trend has us swapping our go-to eyeliner techniques for something that’s a little more out-of-the-box. We’re talking about graphic eyeliner. This trend involves getting creative with your eyeliner—think geometric shapes and striking colors. Want to try the graphic eyeliner trend out for yourself? Keep reading to find eight graphic eyeliner looks to add to your eye makeup rotation.

GRAPHIC EYELINER LOOK #1: COLOR-BLOCKED

They say two is better than one, and a graphic eyeliner look is no exception to the rule. Instead of sticking with a single color, use two eyeliner shades for a fun, dimensional look.

GRAPHIC EYELINER LOOK #2: DOTTED

Your graphic eyeliner look isn’t limited to sharp lines—you can also round things out with your graphic eyeliner look!

Get the look:

STEP #1: PRIME YOUR EYES

Before we get into the good stuff, it’s important to apply an eye primer onto your lids. This will help prep your skin for your eye makeup, as well as keep your makeup in place throughout the day (or night).

STEP #2: GRAB YOUR EYE SHADOW

When it comes to eye shadow, keep it simple, and allow your graphic eyeliner to be the star of the show. Coat your lid with a nude matte shadow for a clean, simple look. Use the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Paris Beach.

STEP #3: LINE YOUR EYES

Ready to let your creativity shine? It’s time to start dotting away. Choose your favorite shade from the L’Oréal Paris Matte Signature Liquid Dip Eyeliner, Waterproof line—whether you want to stick to traditional black or a popping blue—and create a wing on your upper lash line. Then, draw small dots along your lower lash line to add a graphic element to your look. You can get even fancier by alternating the colors of your dots for a makeup look that’s fun and full of color.

STEP #4: COAT YOUR LASHES

Finish your dotted graphic eyeliner look by applying a few coats of a lash-lifting mascara, like the L’Oréal Paris Unlimited Lash Lifting and Lengthening Washable Mascara.

GRAPHIC EYELINER LOOK #3: NEGATIVE SPACE CUT CREASE

A dramatic makeup look doesn’t have to be complicated. If you’re looking for something truly show-stopping, give a negative space cut crease a try.

You’ll find a step-by-step tutorial for this eye makeup look in our article, How to Create a Negative Space Cut Crease.

GRAPHIC EYELINER LOOK #4: INNER CORNER ACCENT

It’s all in the details—or in this graphic eyeliner look’s case, it’s all in the corners! This is the perfect look for those who want to ease into the graphic eyeliner trend.

Get the look:

STEP #1: PRIME YOUR LID

Prep your eyelid before applying any eye makeup to ensure your look lasts all day.

STEP #2: APPLY EYE SHADOW

Similar to the dotted graphic eyeliner look, you’ll want to keep your eye shadow to a minimum. Apply the L’Oréal Paris Infallible 24 HR Eye Shadow in Iced Latte for a subtle nude shimmer.

STEP #3: GRAB YOUR EYELINER

Use the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof, Up to 24HR Pencil Eyeliner in True Teal for a pop of color. Use the pencil to line around the inner corners of your eyes and really make your peepers stand out.

STEP #4: APPLY MASCARA

Reach for the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Washable Mascara to coat your lashes and complete your eye makeup look.

GRAPHIC EYELINER LOOK #5: SOLID CAT EYE

This graphic eyeliner look takes your classic cat eye to the next level, kicking the drama up a notch.

Get the look:

STEP #1: PREP YOUR EYES

Apply an eye primer onto your eyelids to prep them for your eyeliner application.

STEP #2: LINE YOUR EYES

With this graphic eyeliner look, you’ll want to skip eye shadow—you won’t be able to see it in the end anyway. Start by creating a flick at the outer corner of your eye, just as you normally would when drawing on winged eyeliner. Next, instead of connecting the wing to your lash line, follow the line of your crease. Then, fill in your lid with your eyeliner. For a soft makeup look, use the L’Oréal Paris Le Liner Signature Easy-Glide Mechanical Eyeliner, Waterproof in Gold Velvet for this step.

STEP #3: LAYER ON MASCARA

Complete your eye makeup look by coating your lashes with mascara. Use the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise™ Mystic Black to give your lashes voluptuous volume and intense length.

GRAPHIC EYELINER LOOK #6: THICK AND SQUARED OFF

Looking for a way to add a little rebellious flair to your look? Then this is the graphic eyeliner trend for you! With mod, squared edges and a super-chic matte finish, you’ll be able to add a touch of retro charm to a modern look.

Get the look:

STEP #1: PRIME YOUR LIDS

Since your eyeliner will extend farther up your lid than you’re probably used to, it’s a good idea to prep your lids with a bit of primer first.

STEP #2: GENTLY PULL YOUR LID TAUT

In order to get a super-defined square-shaped line, use your ring finger (it has the lightest touch of all your fingers) to gently pull your lid upwards at the far corner before you start applying eyeliner.

STEP #3: DRAW ON BLOCKY EYELINER

Using a felt-tipped liquid eyeliner in the shade of your choice, trace thickly over your lash line, gradually building until you reach your desired height.

STEP #4: DEFINE YOUR SQUARE SHAPE

Lastly, it’s time to sharpen the edges to ensure that your eyeliner looks as geometric as possible.

GRAPHIC EYELINER LOOK #7: UNDERLINER

When it comes to using eyeliner, how often do you actually pay attention to your lower lid? Not all that much, we bet! Well, without further ado, we present to you one of our all-time favorite lower lash line looks!

STEP #1: LINE YOUR WATERLINE

Who would’ve thought you could start a statement makeup look under your eyes? All you have to do is grab a pencil eyeliner in the color of your choice and fill in your lower waterline—right at the base of your lashes.

STEP #2: TOP IT OFF WITH MASCARA

Finish this eye makeup look with a coat of the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous X Fiber Mascara, and you’ll be ready for whatever the day has in store.

GRAPHIC EYELINER LOOK #8: DOUBLE-SIDED CAT EYE

We haven’t run out of ways for you to update your cat eye just yet! The double-sided cat eye is all about extending to opposite ends of the eye for a calligraphy-inspired flair.

Get the look:

STEP #1: START WITH A CLASSIC CAT EYE

Line and flick your upper lids using a liquid or gel eyeliner.

STEP #2: PUT IT IN REVERSE

Moving to the lower lash line, draw a super-fine line from the bridge of your nose up towards the inner corner of your eye, extending the eyeliner along your lower lash line about halfway.

STEP #3: CLEAN UP YOUR LOOK

Did your look get a little messy? Don’t be so hard on yourself—happens to the best of us! You don’t have to start over from scratch. It’s just another time to break out micellar water and a cotton swab. Try the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser Waterproof – All Skin Types.
